Mrs. Willertz led our 5th-8th graders in a Socratic Seminar on O Captain, My Captain by Walt Whitman this afternoon, asking what themes they found in the poem, what they thought was going on in the poem and how it made them feel.
Incorporating seminars into the curriculum is part of our partnership with the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education which involves reading a piece of literature and digging deep into it asking questions below surface level, finding connections you never thought of. Students have also done seminars with song lyrics, as they are poems.
