The #StElizabethReese students have sent their decorated pumpkins off to be part of the Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival over the weekend.
This year's theme was "Show Your Spirit Tuscola County" and some of our students used that as the basis for their design. Others went with Most Original, Funniest or Scariest.
They did such an amazing job! If you want to see their creations, they are in front of the Tuscola County Courthouse steps. We are so proud of our #Eagles!

Have you ever been to an apple orchard?
The K-2 class was able to go to Leaman's Green Applebarn for a field trip today to continue learning about apples. They learned about the apple sorting machine, the cider press, how apples are grown and taken care of in all 4 seasons and they even were able to pick their own apple!
They also enjoyed seeing the goats, chickens, horse and donkey and playing on the expansive playground for a little while. Everyone enjoyed lunch on the farm before they came back to school.
Thank you to our guide, Elizabeth, for a wonderful experience the students and parents won't forget for a while!

It’s the first day of fall, and students here at #StElizabethReese are Autumn by coloring and cutting out leaves with Bible verses on them.
The younger grades have already completed their lessons on apples and the letter "A" where they learned other things about fall and nature.
We’re sure they’ll “fall” in love with the season... and with learning!

Third & Fourth grade science is learning about energy.
Last week, they started learning about motion energy by rolling a marble down a tube into other marbles. Students predicted what would happen, tested what happens when the tube is at different distances and angles, and made observations.
Isn't science cool?!

Thursday was a beautiful day for an outdoor field trip!
The 3rd-5th graders went to Project R.E.D. at the Tuscola County Fairgrounds to learn all about agriculture, farming, pollination, gardening/plants, animals and much more! They even milked a cow using a simulation cow.
There is nothing like #HandsOnLearning!

The 6th-8th grade students completed a research project on the Seven Sorrows and presented them to the school during afternoon prayer. For each of the Seven Sorrows, students had to find the corresponding Bible verse, any sacred art or picture of the Sorrow and provide information on the background of the Sorrow.
The Church dedicates the month of September to Our Lady of Sorrows, also known as Mater Dolorosa (Mother of Sorrows). This devotion recalls the Blessed Virgin Mary’s spiritual martyrdom in virtue of her perfect union with the Passion of Christ. This was her role in salvation history, and what merited her place as the spiritual Mother of all Christians. This is symbolized by a single sword, or seven swords, piercing Mary's suffering heart, as foretold in Simeon's prophecy. Traditionally the Church meditates on the "Seven Sorrows" of our Blessed Mother: the prophecy of Simeon; the Holy Family's flight into Egypt; the loss of the Child Jesus for three days; the meeting of Mary and Jesus as he carried his cross; Jesus' crucifixion and death; Jesus' sacred body taken down from the cross; and Jesus' burial. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa) is September 15th.

It's #ConstitutionDay so the #StElizabethReese students and staff played a game of Kahoot with Constitution Day trivia!
Questions were asked like "How many years is a Senator's term?" and "Who is the head of the Executive Branch?" or "Who is the current President?"
Congrats to our #topthree winners!

Some of our grades are using a curriculum from Memoria Press that incompasses a Classical Education model. The Kindergarten materials came with a Book of Crafts and the students did a wonderful job creating a tree from construction paper and tissue paper as one of their crafts.
Kindergarten through 2nd graders also listened to Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major, op.68 named "Pastoral" then were asked to draw a picture of what they felt and thought of while listening. They are some proud artists! We are so grateful for our liberal arts education model through the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education.

Ms. LaClair's class made their own #bananabread and #cinnamonapples while learning all about apples and bananas for the letters A & B!
Some friends enjoyed the treats and others had just a trial bite to see if they liked it. Life is all about experiencing new things and the students are learning just that at #StElizabethReese.

#StElizabethReese is Centered in Christ and Committed to Excellence. That means we begin our school year with the Blessing of the Backpacks, school Mass and prayer. We thank God for the blessings he has given us, and we pray for his guidance and favor on our school family. Students attend Mass twice a week, go to Adoration once a week, pray the rosary weekly in October and May, pray the Stations of the Cross every week during Lent, pray the Angelus daily at noon and start each school day with prayers written by students.

Thank you to our #StElizabethReese Home & School Association for purchasing Great Adventure Bibles for the 6-8 grade class to use while they do the Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz through Ascension. The students will be able to keep the Bibles and use them the rest of their lives.
Father Josepaul blessed the Bibles with the students and talked to them about the importance of using it each day, in Mass and in their daily lives.
